Introduced updated Opel AstraJuly 3, 2019
The novelty has retained GM units and the former platform.
The Opel Astra family has gone through a planned upgrade. The greatest changes occurred in the engine range, although all engines and transmissions were provided by the former owner of the brand, the concern General Motors.
Externally, the updated Astra can be distinguished from the pre-reform model for the bumpers, the new design of the grille and the presence of automatic shields that change position for better aerodynamics. In addition, Opel worked on the bottom of the car, under which there are numerous fenders, reducing air turbulence. As a result of this modernization, the aerodynamic drag coefficient of the car dropped from 0.30 to 0.26 for the hatchback and to 0.25 for the Astra in the station wagon.
The updated Astra will appear on the European market with a new 1.2-liter turbo-three cylinder engine in three forcing options: 110, 130 or 145 horsepower. In addition, the car now has a 1.4 turbo engine with three cylinders, which gives 145 horse power and 236 Nm of torque. The younger engine is combined only with the manual gearbox, the older one – with the GM variator.
Another innovation – a 1.5-liter diesel engine power 105 or 122 horsepower. A six-speed manual gearbox makes it a couple, and for the more powerful version a nine-band automatic is also provided.
Changes affected the salon. A dashboard with a virtual speed scale appeared on the dashboard, and the multimedia system was controlled using an eight-inch screen. The cameras were also upgraded, and wireless charging for smartphones appeared on the list of available equipment.
Engineers modified the chassis, which made the car more comfortable while driving. In particular, the Opel Astra has received new shock absorbers, and for a fee you can purchase a sports package with sport suspension settings and a more responsive steering.
