The new Chevrolet Corvette will have modifications with a plug-in hybrid powerplant. Such a conclusion can be drawn from the instruction manual for the sports car, where the decryption of the fuse block diagram is given, reports the Corvette Blogger forum. The eighth-generation electrified Corvette is expected to debut before the end of the year.

American journalists found on the 244th page of the technical documentation for the new Corvette a description of the fuse blocks. Slot number 7 is responsible for the artificial sound alert module, that is, for the function of warning pedestrians about the approach of a car with a muffled ICE. A similar system is used, for example, on the Chevrolet Bolt electric car, and for the Corvette with a traditional gasoline engine, the technology would be meaningless.

Another confirmation of potential electrification is fuse 12, which is labeled as “lithium-ion battery module”. Probably a separate unit is needed to de-energize the hybrid part of the power plant. In addition, photo spies managed to catch pre-production prototypes of the Corvettes entangled in power cables.

At the moment, Chevrolet produces the eighth generation Corvette with a non-alternative engine – a 6.2-liter gasoline naturally aspirated V8. Depending on the version, the unit produces 497 or 502 horsepower. Officially, the development of hybrid Corvettes has not been confirmed.

Insiders believe that several versions of the Corvette C8 will be electrified at once, including the top modification of the ZR1. According to various estimates, the power of the power plant, consisting of a new “biturbo-eight” and an electric motor, will be from 750 to 900 horsepower. The hybrid Corvette is expected to receive an all-wheel drive electric system.

According to the publication GM Authority, the premiere of the hybrid Corvette will be held before the end of the year. Engineers reckon that electrification will provide the sports car a low center of gravity and guarantee excellent handling. In addition, the hybrid system will help meet environmental standards.
