Infiniti will develop a platform specifically for electric carsApril 24, 2018
The company Infiniti announced the development of a completely new platform for an electric car, created based on the concept car Q Inspiration. This prototype debuted last winter at the Auto Show in Detroit. This was announced at the press conference on the eve of the opening of the showroom in Beijing, the president of the manufacturer Ronald Kruger.
On the new platform it is planned to create several models at once, the first of which will be presented in 2021. One of them will be a sedan with the appearance of the concept car Q Inspiration – its production is deployed in Beijing. The design of the new platform provides for the possibility of creating machines with both a fully electric “stuffing” and hybrids with an on-board “e-Power” extension in the form of a compact gasoline engine.
According to Kruger, the Q Inspiration concept was the first example of the company’s new design language. According to him, the prototype was created taking into account the tastes of Chinese consumers – that’s why such a car should be dynamic, spacious and look sporty.
At the same time, the concept itself was not an electric car at all: under the hood was a turbocharger VC-Turbo with a variable compression ratio, which was then used on a second-generation QX50 crossover. The car was the first Infiniti, developed under the leadership of the new chief designer Karim Habib, who previously held a similar position in BMW.
