Indian cross on the Land Rover platform: tests started in the native bodyJune 28, 2018
The company Tata Motors is preparing to bring to market a new SUV. The model will be offered in the five- and seven-seater versions.
To test the new crossover Indian Tata started last year. At the heart of the all-terrain vehicle is the Land Rover Discovery Sport platform with a transverse engine arrangement, a model of the British brand and served as a mule for the future novelty: the prototype images were laid out on the Web in 2017 (Jaguar Land Rover belongs to the Indian auto giant). In February of this year, Tata presented the H5X concept at the home showroom, on the motives of which the external appearance of the serial cross-country will be executed – both the exterior and interior of the Indians will differ from the Land Rover. Now there were photos from tests of model Tata in the native body, they were published by portal Motor Beam.
At the moment it is not known what name the new crossover of the Indian company will go on sale. Data on the dimensions of the conveyor option is also not available. The length of the concept H5X is 4 575 mm, width – 1 960 mm, height – 1 686 mm, wheelbase size is 2,740 mm. Dimensions Discovery Sport: 4 589/2 069/1 724 mm, the distance between the axles is 2741 mm.
The engines of the H5X series will also be different: instead of the Ingenium family, the crossover will receive a two-liter Fiat Multijet II turbo diesel with a power of 140 or 170 hp. Drive – front or full. Buyers will be offered versions with a five- and seven-seater saloon.
In the Indian market, a new crossover should be released in the first half of next year. Local media predict a starting price of 1,600,000 rupees. For comparison, Discovery Sport in India will cost a minimum of 4,380,000 rupees.
The company Tata is the second largest national automaker in India: last year the company sold 169,845 cars on the home market. The lag from the number one – Mahindra – is quite significant: this company sold 222,168 cars in India.
Recall, next year Tata will launch another new product – a hatchback with a design in the style of the concept 45X. Five-door hatchback should compete with the models of Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20. Hatch built on the platform of its own development Tata.
