In the network appeared the alleged snapshot of the new Chevrolet CorvetteJuly 10, 2019
The new Chevrolet Corvette will be shown on July 18, but now the alleged snapshot of a mid-engined sports car has already appeared on the Web. According to unconfirmed information, the model of the eighth generation “in the base” will be offered with a modernized atmospheric V8, issuing about 500 horsepower.
For the first time in its history, the Chevrolet Corvette will switch to a mid-engined layout – before that, all seven generations of the sports car were front-engined. According to the archives of General Motors, it was thought to install the engine within the wheelbase even earlier, back in the 50s, but the matter was limited to building experimental samples and concepts like the Corvette Indy.
According to the GM Authority website, the base engine of the Corvette will be a 6.2-liter V8 with an LT2 index. The unit with direct injection is based on the current LT1, but slightly refined: reduced friction losses and optimized Active Fuel Management, responsible for disabling half of the cylinders at low loads. Issuing the engine will be about 480-500 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque, and in a couple of it will offer a seven-step preselective “robot” or a manual transmission.
The last front-engine Chevrolet Corvette was sold at Barrett-Jackson auction. The amount of the transaction amounted to 2.7 million dollars. So much paid for the modification of the Z06 in picking 3LZ with an extended interior trim in red leather, navigation and a media complex with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. Under the hood of the now collectible sports car, a 6.2 V8 compressor is installed, the return of which is 659 forces and 881 Nm of torque.
