In the Morgan lineup will be a new flagship sports carOctober 30, 2018
The model will be built on an aluminum platform and will be presented in mid-2020.
In the lineup of the British company Morgan there will be a new flagship sports car. The model will be released in the body coupe and roadster, approximately, in the middle of 2020. The car will be built entirely on its own on a new platform, providing for the installation of hybrid and all-electric power plants.
According to Autocar, the new aluminum platform will be similar in size to that used in the Aero model. However, its rigidity will be twice as high. The architecture will allow to place traction batteries of various sizes, as well as electric motors. The first model built on the new platform will be presented next year.
Morgan CEO Steve Morris emphasizes that the new sports car will not replace Aero and Plus 8. These models are discontinued after the expiration of the contract with BMW for the supply of 4.8-liter “eights”. The flagship will demonstrate the result of a seven-year study on the future of the brand.
Official information about the range of engines is not, but Autocar suggests that the initial unit will be the “six” with a capacity of about 350 horsepower. She will be able to accelerate the sports car to 60 miles per hour (97 kilometers per hour) in 4.5 seconds. The maximum speed of the car will be 240 kilometers per hour.
The launch of a series of new platforms and models will be part of the celebration of the 110th anniversary of Morgan. In honor of this event, the brand also presented a series of limited models, which differ from ordinary ones with exclusive equipment.
