In seven years, electric cars will become cheaper than ordinary cars.
May 29, 2019Bloomberg New Energy Finance had to revise its forecast for the future of electric vehicles towards their more active expansion – it is predicted that by 2040, 57% of all new cars in the world will have an electric propulsion system.
The rapid development of electric vehicles will allow them to soon meet the prices of vehicles with internal combustion engines, which will allow them to become a more economical choice for customers.
Over the next 20 years, sales of electric vehicles in the world will grow from 2 million units in 2018 to 56 million by 2040. During the same period, sales of cars with ICE will be reduced from 85 to 42 million worldwide.
It is noted that since 2010, the cost of batteries has already decreased by 85% thanks to improved production and savings due to increasing scales, so that by the mid-20s, that is, in five to seven years, electric cars will become cheaper than similar vehicles with ICE .
And we are talking not only about the starting price for a new car, but also cheaper operation during the tenure due to lower electricity prices, as well as lower maintenance costs due to fewer moving parts.
