In New York, presented a diesel version of the crossover Mazda CX-5April 18, 2019
The diesel version of the Mazda CX-5 compact crossover is presented at the New York Auto Show. The new engine is currently available only in the expensive version of Signature AWD. The start of the official sales of new items is scheduled for the end of this year.
When a few years ago, the world was shocked by the scandal with the machinations around diesel cars, it seemed that in many countries these engines could disappear altogether, except for the really powerful ones used in pick-up trucks and trucks. Some companies have now decided to completely abandon the further use of diesel engines in their models. Some, but not all.
At the moment, the Japanese company Mazda offers a compact CX-5 crossover with a 2.2-liter diesel engine with two turbines.
This motor Skyactiv-D can develop power of 168 horsepower, and its torque is 393 Nm. It is noteworthy that the petrol 2.5-liter 4-cylinder turbo engine, whose power is 250 hp, also has the same moment.
As for efficiency, then, according to representatives of Mazda, the new engine consumes 8.71 liters of fuel in the city, 7.84 liters on the highway, and in the combined cycle this figure is 8.4 liters. This is significantly lower than that of the same four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine.
However, there is one snag. Right now, a diesel engine crossover can only be purchased with the expensive CX-5 Signature AWD. Such a car costs 41,000 dollars. As they say the guys from Mazda, in the very near future, the new engine will be available in all trim levels of the crossover. Dates of delivery of cars to customers have not yet been announced – it is reported that the official start of sales of new items is scheduled for the end of this year.
