In Japan, tests have begun for the delivery of correspondence using unmanned vehicles. For this, Toyota Estima machines will be used. This is reported by the press service of the postal service of Japan. They said that cars with an autonomous control system will begin to carry parcels and letters.
Initially, the minibus Toyota Estima will start to run on the route the central post office at the main Tokyo railway station – a post office in the central quarter of the city. In the car there will be a driver who, if necessary, can take control of the car by himself.
“The driver will be in the unmanned car. This is an official requirement for testing such machines, “- said the representative of the post office of Japan.
During the tests, the real correspondence will not be transported by the car. At the first stage it is replaced by cargo imitation. For the route during the tests will be two kilometers. It is expected that the fleet of unmanned Japan mail cars will fully work by 2020.
