The police of the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate arrested a highly modernized hybrid sports car BMW i8 worth about 350 thousand euros. The car was confiscated after a video on Facebook recording illegal street races staged by a coupe driver. It is reported by Carscoops.
The investigation began in February 2020, when the authorities of Rhineland-Palatinate became interested in a video in which the driver of the tuned BMW i8 travels at a speed of at least 200 km / h on a road with a limit of 100 km per hour.
As a result, they found the 40-year-old owner of the sports car and confiscated the car. The driver’s license was revoked indefinitely.
Law enforcers said that prohibited changes were made to the design of the car, which affected, including the suspension and wheels. The police noted that after serious modifications, the cost of the car is at least 350 thousand euros.
The standard BMW i8 is equipped with a hybrid powerplant, which includes a 1.5-liter three-cylinder gasoline supercharged engine that works with a small electric motor. In total, the units give out 374 horsepower and 570 N · m of torque. The car is capable of gaining the first “hundred” in 4.4 seconds, and its maximum speed is 250 km per hour. Production of the model will be finalized this year.
