In Germany introduced the first serial flying taxiAugust 26, 2019
The German startup Volocopter announced the completion of the development of the first VoloCity serial production aircraft – a hybrid of a drone and a helicopter, which will serve as a public air taxi. Testing of the device is planned to be carried out in the near future.
VoloCity is capable of picking a top speed of up to 110 km / h. The flight range of the device is 35 kilometers. The taxi salon is designed for two people with hand luggage. Instead of placing a classic helicopter propeller, engineers installed 18 rotors with small blades. Thanks to this solution, it was possible to significantly reduce the noise emitted by the vehicle.
The presented prototype is already the fourth in a row. Refining the first three generations, Volocopter engineers conducted more than a thousand test flights.
“Thanks to VoloCity, we will be able to open the first commercial routes and finally bring to life the idea of urban air mobility. Our vehicles are fully compliant with the European Aviation Safety Agency, ”Volocopter CEO Florian Reuters.
The leadership of Volocopter is faced with the task of creating an ecosystem for the transport of the future. Now we are considering key locations for placing the so-called VoloPorts – compact airports.
The development of VeloCity air taxi has been underway since 2011. For eight years, the startup has attracted about € 35 million investment. One of the most respected contributors was Daimler and Intel. The tests of the fourth version of VeloCity are planned to be held in Singapore before the end of 2019.
