In Formula 1 in 2021 can a new team appearAugust 25, 2019
In Silverstone, near the legendary British autodrome, a company with the intriguing name Panthera Team Asia F1 is temporarily based, which plans to make its debut in the World Cup in 2021, reports RaceFans.net with reference to sources informed about the new project.
One of the founders of the company is Benjamin Durend, a former managing director of SMP Racing and BR Engineering, who worked in the Russian program at WEC. The formation of the team is already in progress, in particular, the position of the chief specialist in aerodynamics is held by Tim Milne, who previously worked in Formula 1 with Renault, Honda, Super Aguri, Toyota, Caterham and Manor.
Rumor has it that Panthera is already conducting preliminary negotiations with suppliers – supposedly in a future team they intend to follow the same model that forms the basis of Haas F1, i.e. purchase maximum components from third-party manufacturers.
But the main problem is that the technical regulations for 2021 have not yet been approved, and while there is no clarity with all the basic issues, you can only deal with the solution of general organizational tasks. In addition, there is a risk that the rules of Formula 1 may be changed, and there will be less opportunity to repeat the experience of the American team.
At the same time, the FIA did not announce the acceptance of applications from new applicants for participation in the championship; accordingly, there can be no formal negotiations between them and the federation. But it is expected that after the confirmation of the new Formula 1 regulation, a competition will be announced for such applicants – we will see if Panthera Team Asia is among them.
