In China, showed a service for renting removable batteries for electric vehiclesNovember 9, 2020
NIO offered consumers to buy cars without batteries at all and to rent them.
Chinese car manufacturer NIO has presented a battery rental service for electric cars. The company has offered a number of “subscription” plans for electric batteries for various needs.
In early November, NIO shared information on the development of a 100 kilowatt-hour battery. In it, according to the information offered by the company, there are four technological upgrades that put it above its competitors. Such improvements include better thermal runaway control, temperature control in all climates, upgraded battery performance and a highly integrated design that simplifies production and improves space utilization by up to 20%.
NIO vehicles with a similar battery can be purchased by pre-order. For those who have already bought a car with the previous version of the battery with an output of 70 kilowatt-hours, the company offers either to get a new one, or to take it by “subscription”. About $ 1200 per year.
In addition, the company introduced the Battery as a Service program. Buyers are allowed to buy cars without batteries at all and simply rent the desired engine variation by “subscription”. For example, if a person is going to travel a lot in the near future, then NIO will offer him a battery with a capacity of 100 kilowatt-hours, and if he plans to travel only around the city – 70 kilowatt-hours.
