Next-generation Audi R8 supercar developers will try to keep the V10 engine that can be part of a hybrid powertrain

The developers of the next generation Audi R8 supercar will try to keep the original ten-cylinder aspirated engine for the model. About this edition Autocar told the head of Audi Sport Oliver Hoffmann.

“The V8 engine is a symbol of the supercar, thanks to which it is a unique offer in its segment. It is for this engine that our customers love the current generation R8,” – Hoffmann said.

The engineer said that due to the tightening of environmental standards, developers will have to significantly upgrade the engine and, possibly, make it part of a hybrid power plant.

It was previously reported that the next-generation Audi R8, which will appear in 2022, can get an electric powerplant. This will mean that the Germans will completely abandon the use of ten-cylinder units.

In the fall of 2018, Audi introduced the updated R8 of the current generation, which acquired an improved suspension and more powerful engines. The engine of the base supercar develops 570 hp and 550 N · m of torque, which is 30 hp and 10 N · m more than the return of the old engine. Such a car is able to accelerate from a standstill to 100 km / h in 3.4 seconds, and its maximum speed was 324 km per hour.

The top version of the Audi R8 changed its name from the V10 Plus to the V10 Performance Quattro. In its power unit, in particular, they used a new gas distribution mechanism made of titanium, due to which the engine recoil increased to 620 hp and 580 N · m (10 hp and 20 N · m more powerful than its predecessor). The supercar picks up the first 100 km/h in 3.1 seconds, and its maximum speed is 329 km per hour.
