Electric 1949 Mercury Coupe built atelier Icon
Icon’s California Atelier, specializing in the restoration of classic SUVs, presented the 1949 derelict-restomod merchant coupe. The car, which looked like the original, stood idle for a long time, was equipped with an electric power plant with a Tesla Performance battery pack with a capacity of 85 kilowatt-hours.
The electrical installation, prepared jointly by Icon and Stealth EV, looks like a V8 engine. In this case, the power electronics units and part of the battery modules are located under the hood, and the electric motor is installed on the site of a traditional gearbox. Total returns – 406 horsepower and 637 Nm of torque. On one charge the car travels up to 322 kilometers. You can fill the battery up to 100 percent in 1.5 hours.
One of the interesting details of the restroom is the connector for connecting to the Tesla Supercharger terminals located on the site of the neck of the fuel tank. There is another connector behind the number plate – CHAdeMO.
Mercury Coupe almost did not change in appearance, although the car is based on a specially made Art Morrison frame. In the cabin appeared electric windows, which are controlled by the original rotary knob, the Andromeda digital instrument blocks, made in vintage style, new switches, ventilation vents.
The Icon of California is primarily known for the off-roaders, for example, Ford Bronco. Among the latest works – Icon Old School BR, built on the original frame with Dana 60/40 bridges, Fox Racing shock absorbers and anti-roll bars on both axles. Engine – 5.0 V8 Coyote power 432 power and 545 Nm of torque.
