Hyundai wins Best Engine AwardJanuary 21, 2020
For the second year in a row, Hyundai has won two out of ten places in the “Best Engines and Power Plants” competition in 2020.
Featured in the new Hyundai Sonata sedan, the new turbocharged Smartstream 1.6L engine – the GDi and the 2020 Kona Electric re-transmission are on this year’s list. Emphasize the compelling drivetrain improvements achieved through sophisticated fuel-efficient architecture and innovative traction improvements. This is the twelfth time Hyundai has been recognized by Wards 10 Best Engines since its inception in 1995. Hyundai Kona EV and NEXO Fuel Cell cars received awards in 2019.
“We are delighted that our latest Smartstream technology, the 1.6L T-GDi engine with our first-ever Continuously Variable Valve Technology (CVVD), has been recognized as one of the top 10 engines and propulsion systems, as well as a multiple award for Kona. EV powertrain, ”said Mike O’Brien, vice president of products, corporate and digital planning, Hyundai Motor America. “These awards reinforce Hyundai’s commitment to leadership in the industry’s most diverse range of powertrains, and we look forward to continuing our engine and transmission innovations with 13 green cars in the US by 2022.”
