Hyundai Sonata and Kia Optima will be all-wheel driveApril 23, 2019
The all-wheel drive system will have an electronically controlled clutch and operate in several modes.
The next-generation Kia Optima, as well as the Hyundai Sonata 2020 model year, will be equipped with an all-wheel drive system. First, the all-wheel drive Optima will go on sale, after which all-wheel drive will also appear on the new Sonata.
As the Korean branch of ETNEWS has found out, the all-wheel drive system will have an electronically controlled axle clutch, with the help of which the torque will be distributed between the wheels in optimal proportions for road conditions and the driving style of the driver. The all-wheel drive system will receive several modes of operation, among which will necessarily be economical and sporty.
At the moment, both automakers are trying to equip all-wheel-drive systems with as many of their models as possible. For example, Hyundai Palisade and Santa Fe received the HTRAC system, and Quoris and Stinger GT – the AWD system.
Despite the fact that the Sonata 2020 model year is built on a new front-wheel drive platform, Hyundai director Kim Dong Jin officially announced that the all-wheel drive version of the car will definitely come out. About what markets it will be sold, is not reported. In North American – for sure.
All-wheel drive versions of the next-generation Hyundai Sonata and Kia Optima should be very popular in the market, where some of their competitors already have all-wheel drive. This, for example, the new Subaru Legacy.
