Hyundai Santa Cruz pickup can get a completely new engineJanuary 18, 2020
After the presentation of the new Genesis GV80 SUV and its engine range, there were speculations about the appearance of a new power plant on the future Hyundai pickup.
According to the Australian publication CarSales, Hyundai commercial vehicles can be equipped with a 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine with a capacity of 278 hp. and with a torque of 588 Nm. Such data was shared with the publication by the head of research and development department of Hyundai Albert Birmann during the presentation of the new Genesis GV80.
“This engine … we can have so many uses. We also produce commercial vehicles and so on, so this engine will exist for quite some time, ”said Birmann.
Although this is not clear evidence that the new diesel engine will definitely be used on Santa Cruz, it makes great sense for Hyundai to take it to make a profit and return the money invested by the brand in the development of the new engine.
Santa Cruz will be built on a frame platform, which means that it will need a lot of torque to pull the relatively heavy body structure. In this regard, the GV80 diesel engine should be the perfect choice.
