Hyundai Motorsport unveils Hyundai i20 N Rally 2October 22, 2020
The world premiere of the brand new Hyundai i20 N has just died down, and the Koreans are already launching a spectacular rally version of the compact hot hatch, the i20 N Rally2. The first copies should appear next summer.
The Hyundai i20 N is the latest addition to the Hyundai N. The compact hot hatch received from the creators a 1.6 T-GDI with 204 hp. and 275 Nm as the power plant, which is always linked to a manual 6-speed gearbox. Anyone who skillfully drives this transmission should accelerate the car to 100 km / h in 6.7 seconds. The maximum speed of the “charged” hatchback is 230 km / h.
Now Hyundai’s sports division is introducing the world to a version of the i20 N dedicated to private rally teams: the i20 N Rally2. The manufacturer has yet to publish detailed specs, but it is certainly based on the “regular” i20 N and has been tweaked at various points. Hyundai will begin an extensive i20 N Rally2 test program later this month.
Hyundai is providing the i20 N with a completely redesigned chassis, and the 6-speed manual transmission is being replaced by a five-speed sequential transmission from the i20 R5 based on the previous generation i20. Hyundai takes full advantage of the i20 N and offers the compact hatchback, among other things, a roll cage and a set of racing seats with wide seat belts to keep the crew in place while jumping and sliding.
