With Hyundai Lafesta, the Korean automaker plans to conquer a youth audience in China.

Hyundai first showed Lafesta (then – in the form of the concept of the same name) in April 2018 at the Beijing Auto Show. Then, in the database of the Ministry of Industry of China there were pictures of the serial model. Hyundai Lafesta is launched at the Beijing Hyundai joint venture plant in Chongqing, a city in central China. At the heart of this model is a combined platform: the same as that of the Elantra, the wheelbase is 2,700 mm, but instead of the rear semi-dependent suspension, a “multi-link” (from the Hyundai i30 family) is used. Wheel diameter ranges from 16 to 18 inches.

In terms of dimensions (length is 4,660 mm, width – 1,790 mm, height – 1,425 mm) Lafesta can be attributed to the golf class. However, the model is distinguished by a coupe-like silhouette, while the car is a sedan, since the trunk (its volume is 475 liters) can be reached through a separate cover.

The novelty from Hyundai will enter the PRC market with T-GDI petrol turbo four with a capacity of 1.4 and 1.6 liters, they were borrowed from other models of the brand. At Lafesta, the recoil of the first engine produces 140 hp, the indicators of the second one are either 190 or 204 hp. The engines are paired with a single seven-speed automatic transmission with two clutches.

Being veiled Hyundai Lafesta in general not differs from concept, shown in Beijing. The car will be available in two versions: one of them has a grille with horizontal plates, and the exhaust pipe is hidden, the other has a grid with a cellular pattern and two pipes are visible.

The focus on the youth audience of clients is indicated by the sporty style of the passenger compartment: the center console turned towards the driver, a seven-inch display instead of the central speedometer scale (in expensive sedan versions). For rear passengers, additional ventilation deflectors are provided between the backs of the front seats.

In China, sales will start in the second half of this month. Nothing is known about Hyundai’s plans to sell the model in other markets. The company did not officially name it, but there are preliminary prices: the starting price is estimated at $ 20,000 (the same amount in the China is top Elantra).
