Whether the name Grand Santa Fe will remain for the novelty is not yet known.

Hyundai automaker continues winter testing of prototypes of the new eight-seat crossover, which in the model range will take place over the recently introduced Santa Fe. Photospies have found out that the full-size SUV is endowed with a hybrid powerplant. Photos from the tests were at the disposal of the publication Carscoops.

Despite the presence of dense camouflage on the test prototype of the new crossover, you can consider the details that allow you to draw certain conclusions. The front of the eight-seat model will be similar in design to the new Hyundai Santa Fe. It will have the same narrow LED lights, under which will be a block with fog lights and daytime running lights, as well as a large branded radiator grille.

Behind the camouflage are vertical lanterns. Perhaps the company chose this design, so that the novelty could be distinguished from Santa Fe. Also, compared to a colleague, the rear overhang increased, and the rear posts became more vertical. This allowed to get more space for passengers placed on the third row of seats.

Most likely, the new eight-seat crossover Hyundai will share the platform with Kia Telluride, which is also in the prototype testing phase. Both these new items debut with electrified power plants. Whether it will be a “soft” hybrid system with a 48-volt starter-generator or a combination of an ICE and an electric motor is not yet known.

The world premiere of the new eight-seat crossover from Hyundai may take place in 2019. The main market will be the USA. It is not yet clear whether the novelty will come to Europe.

Hyundai also plans to launch a hybrid version of Santa Fe. And by 2020, 15 electrified models are planned (hybrids, plug-hybrids and electric cars and cars with hydrogen fuel cells).
