Hyundai has published a teaser for a new platform for electric carsOctober 20, 2020
E-GMP, a platform built exclusively for electric vehicles, is the core technology for the next generation of electric vehicles to be presented by Hyundai Motor Group.
The debut of the new platform is due on October 21, but before that Hyundai is showing what E-GMP is capable of. This platform heralds a new era of Hyundai automotive design focused on electrification and autonomous technology. the first model based on this platform will be the Hyundai Ioniq 5 – the first production electric car, which will be released in early 2021.
The South Korean automaker has already tested an all-wheel drive version with a small engine in the front and a powerful one in the back.
“The short overhang e-car platform with a forward-extending bonnet allows us to stretch the cab to create more space in the cabin. The Prophecy is the sedan of the future, but it is not a traditional sedan type, it will have a lot of space inside and more curved lines on the body, ”said the head of the Korean brand Sang-Yup Lee.
Lee also said the new models will mark the start of Hyundai’s new design philosophy, which will avoid the Russian nesting doll strategy adopted by many other car manufacturers.
“Our machines will be more like a chessboard with a king, queen, bishop, horse,” Lee said. “They all look different and work differently, but when they are together they form one team. This is the essence of Hyundai’s appearance – to diversify our designs to suit our customers’ lifestyles. “
