Hyundai and KIA plan to launch a new modelAugust 20, 2020
A new patent filing from Hyundai suggests the South Korean group is preparing some kind of mysterious product called Bayon.
Hyundai and its subsidiary KIA have been on the rise lately with attractive new models and new electric vehicle range records. Hyundai has unveiled a new sporty variant of the Hyundai Elantra, while KIA has changed the generation of the Sedona / Carnival minivan, which arrives with an outstanding new design and more features.
Despite these successes, none of the Korean brands are looking to slow down anytime soon, as evidenced by a new patent that Hyundai has filed for a product called Bayon. This new patent covers “automobiles; sports cars; vans; trucks; buses; electric vehicles; spare parts and accessories for cars ”, but at the moment there is no additional information.
This leaves many questions, as it is not yet clear what the car will be like and what badge it will wear. Since Hyundai no longer uses the “i” prefix for its model naming system, it is impossible to tell if KIA will get a new model first or if Hyundai will do something different. In any case, we can expect a new model from both brands as they offer very similar passenger car ranges. The Bayon name could probably get some kind of compact model.
Since the new Kia K5 GT has created a furor with its unconventional design and exciting features, you can be sure that whichever brand introduces the new Bayon market, it will be something with a completely new design. Given the popularity of crossovers and SUVs, something lofty and practical cannot be ruled out, but I want to believe that Koreans are working on some kind of niche car.
