Hybrid Volkswagen Touareg GTE spotted on testsMay 10, 2020
The German company is preparing to release a new hybrid version of the Volkswagen Touareg. The crossover will be presented with a gasoline-electric variation of the GTE.
The latest prototype was caught during the test. Among the distinguishing features of the model, eyewitnesses identified a slightly redesigned appearance and nameplates on the body. In the Touareg lineup, the GTE variation will be the second rechargeable hybrid after the Touareg R.
It is worth recalling that the Volkswagen Touareg R is equipped with a 3.0-liter gasoline V6, which works in conjunction with a 136-horsepower electric motor, which is powered by a 14.1 kWh traction battery. The total power of the power unit is 462 hp and 700 Nm of torque.
Volkswagen currently does not report the specifications of the Touareg GTE. Experts suggest that, technically, the novelty will repeat the PHEV-variation for the Chinese car market. If this assumption is true, then under the hood a 2.0-liter “turbo-four” will settle together with a 136-horsepower electric motor and a traction battery of 18 kW * h. The estimated return of the Touareg GTE is about 367 hp. and 700 Nm of torque, and the range on a single charge will not exceed 58 km in the WLTP cycle.
The debut of the hybrid Touareg GTE should take place this year, which should increase the average harmful emissions of carbon dioxide in the lineup.
