How does a BMW i8 sports car sound without artificial engine noise?October 29, 2020
In a recent video, the YouTube team is trying to answer the question of whether the hybrid BMW i8 can sound like a real supercar when the artificial noise of its engine is turned off.
The BMW i8 has been out of production for a while, but to this day we can still see people argue about the greatness of this hybrid model. Some people say its price is too high, while its advocates argue that you should accept it as it is, not expect it.
Another controversial point related to the BMW i8 is its artificial engine sounds, which give the impression that there is a very powerful engine with a large displacement under the hood.
The fake engine noise emitted from the speakers located inside and outside the vehicle is intended to amplify any noise emitted by the three-cylinder petrol 1.5-liter engine. It should be noted that this is the same motor used in the regular Mini Cooper, so there really isn’t much to expect from it.
The video above, uploaded to YouTube by user Janky Whips, shows us that even without the artificial exhaust used by BMW, the i8 still sounds like a true sports car.
According to the video description, the sound you hear in the video was a combination of two separate recordings: one was taken from inside the cockpit, and the other was recorded on an external microphone attached to the bumper, a few centimeters from the muffler tip.
