Honda unexpectedly named the most “American” brandJune 26, 2019
Cars.com annually makes a rating of models, which, according to the authors, are the most American in terms of production. The study is called the American-Made Index and concerns 118 models produced by 14 automotive companies in the United States.
In the list of criteria by which participants are evaluated, there is not only the place of assembly, but also where the engines, transmissions, and other components are produced. It also evaluates how many American citizens work at the plant and is generally involved in the production of a particular model. Top of the ranking – Top 10. The cars in the top ten, as it turns out, do not necessarily have to be an American brand – there is no talk of patriotism here.
First place this year was given to Jeep Cherokee, which is produced in Belvedere, pcs. Illinois, and the only foreign manufacturer to appear on the list was Honda. “Appeared” – this is not entirely accurate, since the company took 2,3 and 4 places with models Odyssey, Ridgeline and Passport. Having missed the 5th place of the Chevrolet Corvette, Honda Motor was in sixth and seventh positions with the Acura MDX and Honda Pilot models. Then there are two more models from the American “big three” – Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon, and Honda Motor and Acura RDX again close the Top-10. Few expected such a development of events, however, Honda has long and steadily been developing its production in the USA.
It is worth noting that the most popular car in the country and the absolute market leader – the Ford F-150 pick-up was not included in the top ten this year due to the origin of a number of components. The same applies to the Ford Explorer, and the Ford Taurus dropped out of the rating because it was discontinued.
