Honda patented electric sports carJuly 3, 2019
The design of the novelty resembles the concept of Sports EV 2017
The Japanese patent office’s database has featured Honda’s serial sports coupe, according to the Dutch edition Autoweek.nl. Apparently, we are talking about a model with zero emissions, sustained in the style of the recent hatchback Honda e.
On the Honda e, the car on the patent images looks like because of the round front optics. But even more, the coupe resembles the Sports EV showcar, which was presented at the Tokyo Auto Show in 2017. The differences lie in the proportions: if the concept had a short rear overhang and a long hood, then this is a sports coupe more like a model with a mid-engine layout.
The fact that the electric car is shown on the published pictures is indicated by the absence of the exhaust pipe and the traditional grille. This theory is also confirmed by the fact that earlier Honda announced the possible appearance of a mass-produced electric sports car in 2020 as part of the strategy of the company Electric Vision.
You can also notice that the car has no visible door handles and side mirrors. It is possible that the company uses Side Camera Mirror System technology, which was previously tested on Honda e: instead of mirrors, cameras will be installed on the sides of the car, the image of which is displayed on two six-inch displays at the edges of the dashboard. The advantage of the Side Camera Mirror System is that the modules are so compact that they do not go beyond the wheel arches, they reduce airflow resistance by 90 percent and improve the overall aerodynamics of the car by 3.8 percent.
