The Car Design Award 2018 was presented in Turin. The jury of twelve journalists selected winners in three categories: “concept car”, “serial car” and “designer language of the brand”. Awards were given to firms Honda, Jaguar and Volvo.

Among the concept cars created in the last year, the highest score was won by the tiny electric hatch Honda Urban EV. Journalists praised the designers of the Japanese brand for the combination of retro motifs and futuristic aesthetics.

According to the results of the vote, “Honda” gave way to two coupés that received the same number of points: it is an electric car Genesis Essentia, debuting at the Auto Show in New York, and the concept Mazda Vision Coupe, shown in Tokyo.

Among the production cars of the highest rating for the design was the crossover Jaguar E-Pace. “He borrowed many features from the older model, while not looking like a small copy of the F-Pace crossover. He has his own strong character, “the members of the jury resumed their decision.

Quite a bit on the results of the vote gave Jaguar another car from the UK – the new sports car Aston Martin Vantage. The third place went to the electric compartment of the new brand Polestar, owned by Volvo.

The award for the best design language went to Volvo. Members of the jury especially noted the transformation that occurred with the brand in recent years, the ideas of the Scandinavian design reinterpreted in new models and refined optics.

The Car Design Award was founded in 1984 by Fulvio Cinti, editor-in-chief of the Italian specialized magazine Auto & Design. It was held annually until 1997, and was revived in 2016. Now the jury consists of twelve journalists from Europe, the United States, Latin America and Asia. Last year, the highest awards received the concept electric car Jaguar I-Pace, the serial sports car Ford GT and the brand Land Rover.
