Honda Insight: the new serial sedanMarch 26, 2018
The Honda company told about the new generation of Insight saloon. The public premiere of the hybrid sedan will be held at the New York Auto Show, which will open its doors to media representatives on March 28.
Inspector Insight third generation Honda introduced in January this year, now the Japanese have distributed a photo of the production model, and also shared data about it. As expected, the product version is practically the same as the prototype. The design of the Insight hybrid, which, with a change of generations, has evolved from a hatchback into a coupe-like sedan, is made in the brand-style brand. The size of the wheelbase is 2,700 mm, the remaining dimensions are not yet revealed.
The power plant of the hybrid consists of a petrol engine running at the Atkinson cycle 1.5, which rotates the driving wheels of the electric motor and the block of lithium-ion batteries. The cumulative output is 151 hp. (267 Nm), fuel consumption – 4.3 l / 100 km in the city cycle. The batteries are located under the rear seats, so the Insight has a full trunk (minimum volume is 427 liters), and the backs of the second row of seats can be folded in a 60:40 ratio. The novelty has three driving modes: Normal, Econ and Sport.
In the arsenal of the new hybrid are: LED optics, 16- or 17-inch disks, digital instrument panel, multimedia system with 8-inch touch screen and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated seats, electric hatch. In addition, the Insight is equipped with a complex of Honda Sensing: adaptive cruise control, automatic braking and collision avoidance systems, warning of leaving the occupied band, recognition of traffic signs.
The new sedan will be produced at the Honda plant in Indiana, which also produces Civic and CR-V. At American dealers the novelty will appear in the beginning of summer, before Europe the model, probably, does not reach.
The price has not yet been announced, but at the same time Honda said that Insight will occupy a niche between Civic and Accord: the first model in the States costs from 18,840 dollars, the second will cost a minimum of 23,570 dollars. All prices are excluding taxes and shipping.
Recall, Honda Insight first generation debuted in 1999, then the car was a small hatchback with a very specific design. The second-generation model entered the market in 2009, outwardly it almost repeated its main competitor, the Toyota Prius. However, the Prius hybrid Insight could not bypass, and after six years the production of economical Honda was canceled.
Earlier, Honda announced an electric car for the European market: in 2019, a green model based on the Urban EV concept will appear on the conveyor.
