Honda e will allow the brand to gain a foothold in the subcompact segment
Honda places high hopes on the Honda e electric hatchback and hopes the model will allow it to gain a foothold in the subcompact segment – the brand actually left it after the Logo was discontinued. The planned sales volume – about 10 thousand citycar annually.
Honda e is the key to reducing average CO₂ emissions across the lineup. However, to meet the 2020 and 2021 standards, the managing director of the British division of the brand Dave Hodgetts is convinced, the company needs to sell more than 10 thousand cars a year. In doing so, sales volume adjustments are offered in “real time” mode, depending on how well the engines with ICEs and hybrids diverge to compensate for their harmful emissions.
The company also hopes to strengthen its position in segment B of the European dimensional classification. After the failure of the hatchback Logo Honda has only Jazz in this class.
Honda e public debut took place at the Frankfurt Motor Show, where the company announced that the number of pre-orders for electric vehicles has already reached 40 thousand. There was also a price announced: the base version in Germany was estimated at 29,470 euros, the more powerful Advance with a 113-kilowatt (154-horsepower) engine at 32,470 euros.
The rear-wheel drive Honda e is equipped with a traction battery with a capacity of 35.5 kilowatt-hours. With the help of speed stations it can be filled up to 80 percent in 30 minutes. The declared acceleration time to 100 km/h is eight seconds exactly. One-mile run is 220 kilometers over the WLTP measurement cycle.
