The pilot of the WTCR bodybuilding championship, Tiago Monteiro, at the wheel of the charged hatchback Honda Civic Type R set a new record of the Estoril route for serial front-wheel drive vehicles. The Portuguese rode the circle in 2 minutes 1.84 seconds, improving the result of the previous generation car – 2 minutes 4.08 seconds.

The race was held as part of the Type R Challenge 2018 event, which aims to show the best time on the five famous European race tracks. According to Monteiro, the new Type R is very stable in the corners, and on sensations hot hatch looks like a real racing car, on which after the track you can still go home.

“Estoril” became the fifth autodrome, on which Honda Civic Type R set a record. Earlier, the hatchback passed faster than all the “Silverstone“, the Belgian track “Spa-Francorchamps“, and the French route “Magny-Cours“. Last April, Civic Type R set a record for the Nurburgring. Hot-hetch drove the “North Loop” for seven seconds faster than the car of the last generation – in 7 minutes 43.8 seconds.

Under the hood of the hot hatchback is a two-liter turbo engine of the VTEC Turbo family. The output of the unit is 320 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. From the place to the 100 km/h Civic Type R is able to accelerate in 5.7 seconds. The maximum speed is 272 kilometers per hour.
