Charged hatchback Honda Civic Type R set a new record for front-wheel drive cars. The model became the fastest on the French circuit “Magny-Cours”, almost five seconds improving the time of the previous generation car and overtaking the more powerful Ford Focus RS.
The race was held as part of the Type R Time Attack Challenge 2018. The driver of the car was WTCC racer Esteban Gerieri. He managed to drive the track in two minutes and 1.5 seconds – the hatchback of the previous generation it took two minutes 6.4 seconds
Honda Civic Type R, which is already the fastest front-wheel drive model of the Nürburgring, is equipped with a two-liter turbo engine with 320 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. The unit operates in conjunction with a six-speed manual transmission. From the place to 100 kilometers per hour the hot-hatches accelerate in 5.7 seconds. Its maximum speed is 272 kilometers per hour.
Earlier it was reported that the Japanese automaker intends to establish several records on the most famous racing tracks. Among the already announced were the “Silverstone”, the Belgian “Spa-Francorchamps” and the Portuguese “Estoril”. In the list of riders who will participate in the races, also entered the champion of Formula 1 2009 Jenson Button.
