Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition set a new recordJuly 9, 2020
The Honda Type R Limited Edition sports hatchback set a speed record on the Japanese Suzuka track, driving a lap of 2 minutes 23.993 seconds.
The Suzuka track has a distance of 5.8 km and is known for its high-speed chicanes and difficult turns. The legendary race track is located in the eponymous city of Mie Prefecture. The track is configured in the form of a figure of eight and was developed by John Hugenholtz for testing Honda cars. In Suzuk there are all kinds of turns, which allows you to evaluate the characteristics of road equipment. About the quality of the track says the fact that the Grand Prix of Japan of the Formula 1 championship is held here.
Suzuka has been an important component in the development of all Honda cars and engines since 1962. The development and construction of the track was carried out under the leadership of Honda founder and president Soichiro Honda, who liked to repeat: “Cars cannot get better if they don’t go their way along the race track.”
Recall that the debut of Type R Limited Edition took place in February this year, and recently launched European sales of new items, which will be made in a limited edition of only 100 copies (for Europe). The car is equipped with a 2-liter VTEC Turbo engine. It develops power of 320 hp, and the maximum torque reaches 400 Nm. With its help, the hatchback is able to accelerate to 100 km / h in 5.7 seconds.
Recall that in 2017, the Honda Civic Type R GT set a record for front-wheel drive cars on the legendary Nurburgring track, showing a time of 7 minutes 43.8 seconds. And the production version of the model was marked by records on five European racing tracks.
