Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition gets ultralight rims from BBSJuly 19, 2020
The well-known manufacturer of rims – the company BBS, presented a set of rims for the “charged” Honda Civic Type R sedan. They are 10 kg lighter than conventional discs.
Back in February this year, Honda unveiled a special version for the high-performance Civic Type R, which received the Limited Edition designation. This limited edition model is designed for use on the racetrack.
In addition to a slightly redesigned exterior, the Civic Type R Limited Edition has a lighter design.
To achieve this, Honda had to remove the sound-deadening ducts and rear heater ducts to save 12.7 kg, and replaced the standard wheels with BBS forged aluminum rims. Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires were used. Thanks to the German wheel manufacturer (BBS), it was possible to get rid of 10 kg of excess weight.
But what is the secret of BBS forged wheels? Honda has released an official video – sort of an answer to the question “How It’s Done” to show the minute details behind the BBS forged wheels.
As opposed to shaping a metal through molten metal forming, forging uses heat and pressure. This ensures that the fine-grained structure of the metal is strong and lightweight, eliminating the tiny spaces created when the metal is melted.
The whole process is captured on video. We invite you to watch it to further appreciate the greatness of the Civic Type R Limited Edition.
Not so long ago, AutoTimesNews wrote that the updated Honda Civic Type R will receive four-wheel drive and 400 hp. As reported on Saturday, July 11, BestCarWeb, the new generation Honda Civic Type R will receive an all-wheel drive system and a power of 400 hp.
