Hidden police patrols will ride sports carsJune 11, 2021
In the US state of Texas “ghosts” – special white Chevrolet Camaro will watch the speed breakers. The experiment attracted a lot of attention from motorists.
In the good old days, it was easy to spot a police officer, as the majority of the car fleet consisted of classic Ford Crown Victoria sedans. And even if the car did not have a branded livery, if a Crown Vic appeared in the rearview mirror, then communication with the police could not be avoided.
Today, the police have a wide variety of vehicles from the brutal Ford Police Interceptor Utility and Chevrolet Tahoe SSV / PPV to Dodge Charger, Tesla Model 3 and Model Y.
And in the Harris County Sheriff’s office, Texas, they decided to use ghost patrol cars to fight speed-breakers. All of them are completely unremarkable externally Chevrolet Camaro sports cars. Their service in the police is evidenced only by the faint gray Sheriff Harris County appliques on the white bodywork. Special lighting technology is hidden behind the radiator grill, so it is also invisible when turned off.
The Harris County Sheriff’s office notes that in this way they will be able to get rid of the reckless drivers on the streets and “the dubious reputation of the region, which has the most dangerous roads in the country.”
An unusual experiment attracted attention. Some car enthusiasts warn their fellows about finding a ghost car on the track. But this is also positive, because knowing that there is a police somewhere nearby, the offender will think several times before violating the traffic rules.
