Hennessey says there is no room in the Ford GT for a V8
January 21, 2019
The real tuning legend, the American company Hennessey, has so far decided not to take on the modernization of the Ford GT supercar. At least, the guys will not change the engine of this car – the V-shaped “six” will remain in its place.
According to the foreign publication Motor Authority, John Hennessy, who is the founder and CEO of the famous tuning studio, said that the V8 engine simply does not fit in the Ford GT. Mr. Hennessy owns GT himself, so this question is important for him.
He also added that the existing 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 used in the Ford GT is a very good engine that “combines aesthetics and excellent dynamics.”
A more powerful V8 engine will certainly suit a Ford supercar, but … The fact is that the design of the current generation of the GT model makes it difficult to install a huge V8 into the engine compartment of an American sports car.
No, of course the studio Hennessey could adjust the body of the Ford GT, in order to “push” there V8, but no. As John Hennessy said, the company’s engineers would have to modify it quite a lot, which would be blasphemous with respect to this car, to say the least. “Even a million dollars will not make me do it” – this is exactly what the director of the Hennessey studio told the Motor Authority.
Under the hood, the current version of the Ford GT is V6 rated at 647 horsepower. John Hennessy called this car a very worthy supercar.
