The German company Alpina, specializing in the refinement of BMW cars, has unveiled a new generation B3 station wagon. The public premiere of the “charged” five-door based on the BMW 3-Series Touring took place at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Acceptance of orders for the car will begin in the first quarter of next year. The first cars will reach customers in the second half of 2020. Prices for the car are kept secret.
The large station wagon was equipped with a 3.0-liter engine from the BMW 3-Series Touring with six cylinders, which has undergone modernization. The unit with two turbines was equipped with new software, as well as finalized the cooling system. As a result, engine power has grown to 462 horsepower. The same unit at the factory wagon M340i produces 375 horsepower.
The engine works in conjunction with an eight-speed automatic transmission, which is a joint development with ZF, and xDrive all-wheel drive system. With this engine, the maximum speed of the station wagon is 300 km per hour. Thus, the Alpina B3 is one of the fastest production station wagons in the world.
The average fuel consumption of a car is 11.1 liters per 100 kilometers. From the regular M340i station wagon, the novelty from Alpina differs in another body kit and a new exhaust system with four tailpipes. Customers can choose from 19- or 20-inch wheels.
Another premiere of Alpina in Frankfurt will be its own version of the large crossover BMW X7. It will be equipped with a forced 4.4-liter V8 unit with two turbines developing 600 liters. with. and 800 Nm of torque. It is with this engine that the Alpina B7 xDrive sedan is equipped – a revised version of the flagship BMW Seven.
