Hamilton will field his team in electric off-road racinSeptember 9, 2020
The racing team, which is going to found a multiple champion F1, will be named X44
Lewis Hamilton announced plans to put his own team in the Extreme E tournament – a series of off-road races that will take place in remote corners of the planet and which will start exclusively with electric cars.
The competition should take place for the first time next year. The first phase is scheduled for mid-January and will take place in African Senegal, the remaining four will be held in Saudi Arabia, Nepal, Greenland and Brazil.
The new team will be named X44 (this is the number Hamilton performs in Formula 1). The team will not have to develop the car, since all the participants in the series will use the same electric vehicles specially created for Extreme E. However, teams have the opportunity to create their own body panels and make the cars resemble serial ones.
In theory, this opens up an opportunity for cooperation with Mercedes – the German concern is now actively developing its electric line. However, the HWA racing team, which is essentially one of the divisions of the German concern and is the Mercedes factory team in the Formula E tournament, has already announced plans to announce Extreme E.
