Hamilton – the best in the first training session in AustriaJuly 5, 2020
Six-time and reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton led the protocol for the first training at the Red Bull Ring, half an hour before the end of the session, showing the time 1.04.816.
The second result in 0.356 seconds was shown by his teammate Valtteri Bottas, and the third line following the results of an hour and a half was taken by the current winner of the Austrian Grand Prix Max Ferstappen, who lost to Hamilton six tenths.
Not far from Verstappen (only 13 thousandths!) Was the best of the McLaren Carlos Sainz. Behind him were Sergio Perez at the Racing Point, Lando Norris and the second Red Bull car, Alex Albona. All the best times are shown on Soft tires.
Ferrari racers worked on long series of laps and were unusually low in the protocol – Charles Lecler on the tenth line, Sebastian Vettel – 12th.
The session did without serious incidents. Several pilots were deployed, but without consequences for the car, and an aerodynamic element fell off Renault Esteban Okon on the main line – it was necessary to activate the virtual safety car mode for a short time. Romain Grosjean spent almost the entire training in the pits and drove a minute before the checkered flag: Haas mechanics took a long time to fix the problem.
