Hamilton made it clear that he was interested in Formula EApril 8, 2019
Lewis Hamilton does not exclude that after Formula 1 will continue his career in Formula E, because he believes that the future of motor racing – for electric vehicles.
The five-time world champion has a contract with Mercedes, which expires after the 2020 season, but he made it clear that he is already thinking about where he will play in the future.
This Hamilton said on Friday at Silverstone, where the company Mercedes-Benz celebrated the 125th anniversary of its presence in motor racing: he hinted that he could follow the example of his colleague and compatriot Gary Puffetta and go to the world championship in electric racing, in which season will be the factory team Mercedes.
“I have already begun to discuss this,” said Lewis. – Until recently, the main thing for me has always been Formula 1. But here, at Silverstone, I rode an old DTM car, and I liked it. I rarely manage to ride something just for fun, so it was an incredible experience.
It was so great to get behind the wheel of my car, on which I spoke in 2015, as well as pilot the historic Mercedes W196. It was a unique experience. If we consider that I am in races from the age of 8, then you have to be prepared for serious manifestations of the symptoms associated with the completion of a career – all racers experience them when they stop participating in competitions, and so will be with me when Formula 1 for me will end.
But there are other things in life, and I believe that there are other series in which I could perform. Fernando Alonso goes to IndyCar, although Kimi Raikkonen still remains in F1.
I grew up around the same period as Gary Puffett. He is somewhat older than me and now appears in Formula E, and after all, the future is behind this sport.
So, who knows, maybe in the future there will be an area in which I could apply my professional skills, although with age it’s more and more difficult to find motivation and maintain composure, so I’ll have to find some other business that will appeal to me.
I have no doubt that I will always love cars, and while I try to stay in Formula 1. As long as I have enough physical abilities and the ability to concentrate, I will continue to strive for the highest results that I can only achieve. ”
