GMC talks about changes for the 2020 Sierra pickupAugust 15, 2020
According to the online community GM Authority, the 2020 version of the full-size GMC Sierra 1500 pickup, equipped with a 5.3-liter L84 petrol V8, will only be available with an 8-speed automatic. 10-speed automatic transmission temporarily disappears from the prices.
The full-size 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup truck can be purchased with a range of engines ranging from a 2.7-liter turbo to a 6.2-liter V8. The choice of engine depends on the actual equipment chosen by the buyer. There is even an option to buy a truck with a 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine for those who need a lot of torque. These engines are mated to six, eight and ten-speed automatic transmissions. But a certain engine configuration will soon be left with only an eight-speed automatic, and that will be the rather popular naturally aspirated 5.3-liter V8 L84 petrol engine.
According to folks from the online community GM Authority, this change has not yet been reflected on the company’s website.
It is reported that absolutely all configurations of the 2020 GMC Sierra 1500, which have four-wheel drive and a 5.3-liter V8 engine, will only be equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission. At the time of this writing, the option to select the above engine in combination with a 10-speed gearbox is still there.
There are also rumors that GMC will allow dealers to take orders for a 10-speed automatic transmission for a while, but then only offer an 8-speed transmission. And, according to the GM Authority, it will remain so until the end of 2020.
It is noteworthy that on foreign forums, owners of full-size GMC Sierra pickups are very critical of the 8-speed automatic transmission because it changes gears poorly and breaks down quite often.
Apparently, there is some problem with the more reliable 10-speed “automatic”, or GMC has an incredible excess of eight-speed transmissions, which they are just going to sell soon. In general, nothing is known about this decision of the company’s management.
Not so long ago, our publication wrote that GMC is preparing a diesel version of the Yukon SUV. The 2021 GMC Yukon full-size SUV with a 3.0-liter Duramax diesel engine is slated to begin sales in November.
