The defense division of General Motors has posted on its website a video showing the militarized version of the Chevrolet Silverado ZH2 pickup. According to preliminary information, the SUV is built on the basis of the next-generation civilian car and is equipped with a hydrogen fuel cell power plant.
According to representatives of the company, the car received serious processing. Multimatic is now equipped with unique shock absorbers with remote tanks and the patented DSSV (Dynamic Suspensions Spool Valve) slide valves. This allows the car to overcome off-road with high reliability. Also, the car will receive an improved lithium-ion battery and a new Hydrotec power unit with three cylinders for hydrogen.
A unique unit will be used as a power unit. Hydrogen and electricity will be used as a power source. Unfortunately, the technical details have not yet been disclosed, but the power reserve at full charge will be 640 km. Moreover, engineers promise to work at extremely low and high temperatures.
In October last year, GM Defense showed the concept of a SURUS autonomous truck chassis with a wide range of applications. The prototype was also equipped with a power unit powered by hydrogen fuel cells, which included two electric motors and a block of lithium-ion batteries.
Meanwhile, the release of a GM autonomous vehicle may be postponed. Despite major investments and assurances that the robocar will enter the market as early as next year, there is reason to think that the dates will move.
