GM releases comments on 2020 Corvette spontaneously opening trunkAugust 7, 2020
The press service of the American concern GM, which includes Chevy, released a statement that comments on the situation with the spontaneous opening at speed of the front trunk of the 2020 Corvette sports coupe.
In July, we reported on a number of incidents where the front trunk of a 2020 Chevy Corvette sports coupe could open spontaneously when driving at a certain speed. Previously, a video was published that captured the moment the trunk was opened. Today, a similar situation was recorded on the Corvette datalogger.
Sports coupe owner complaints regarding the trunk opening accidentally have been filed with the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and eight complaints have been posted on the NHTSA website to date, all pointing to the same problem.
GM (which includes Chevy) has announced a service company that addresses some of the safety issues in the front trunk of a sports coupe – but that’s not what you’d expect.
According to US media reports, GM’s recall concerns “certain 2020 Chevrolet Corvette vehicles that do not comply with Federal Vehicle Safety Standard 4.1 … Internal Trunk Release.”
This service company deals with problem Vette vehicles that have a slightly different problem. It is reported that ten minutes after the engine is turned off, voltage is no longer applied to the trunk button, which is located in the trunk itself. What could be dangerous if a child or small person gets inside the trunk.
Following the sporadic reports of 2020 Chevrolet Corvette hoods opening spontaneously while driving, the engineering team is investigating the potential issue and will work to prevent further development. We were unable to identify any mechanical issues associated with this situation. We’re looking for ways to improve bonnet open warnings by increasing the volume of the warning tones and changing the messages that appear on the dashboard screen. We will definitely fix this in an upcoming update that can be downloaded to the machine via over-the-air updates. ”
Not so long ago, AutoTimesNews wrote that the list of standard equipment for the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray 2021 was replenished. Chevy has added new options to the 2021 Corvette C8’s standard equipment list while maintaining cost. So, the model in the coupe body costs $ 59,995, and in the cabriolet body – $ 67,496
