Global sales of electric vehicles fell in the third quarter of this yearDecember 8, 2019
At the same time, it is worth noting the intermediate annual dynamics for electric cars. However, it will be extremely difficult to get to the forecasted figure of 3 million cars sold at the end of the year.
Experts at the Avtostat Info analytical agency have published data on global sales of electricity-powered cars. In the third quarter of this year, sales of such cars decreased by 10% compared to the same period last year. This result was influenced by two factors – a general decrease in the global car market, as well as a decrease in sales of electric vehicles in the USA and China. Europe in the third quarter remained in a small “plus” of 2.1%. If you take the period from January to the end of September, then sales of electric cars in the world grew by 20%.
However, it is unlikely to reach the mark of 3 million cars sold, which experts predicted at the beginning of the year. Now everyone agrees that according to the results of 2019, the global fleet will be replenished with 2.3 million cars powered by electricity.
The decline in the American electric car market is mainly due to the decrease in Tesla sales – in the third quarter, the demand for such cars decreased by 37%. The decline in sales in China is due to the expiration of government subsidies for the purchase of electric cars. The most popular model this year is the Jaguar I-Pace, which sold 116 copies in the first ten months.
Meanwhile, Peugeot introduced the electric version of the e-2008. The crossover will go on sale next year.
