Giuliano Alesi: I am equal to my father

Giuliano Alesi is the son of a former Formula 1 driver Jean Alesi, who performed for Ferrari in the first half of the 90s, so it is unlikely that anyone was surprised that he too was engaged in motor racing. He made his debut in karting relatively late, at the age of 13, and did not achieve much success there. And only after the transition to the French Formula 4 in 2015 showed itself, having managed to win the pole, win and win the best lap in the first race.

In 2016, Alesi Jr. moved to GP3, where he became a pilot Trident, and also entered the Ferrari Racing Academy. For three years of performances in GP3, he managed to win four times (all from the reversing grid), and this year Giuliano is already in Formula 2. His goal is to get into Formula 1, where his father once spoke, but in an interview He admitted to the press service of the series that his path to motor racing was far from as simple as it might seem.

Giuliano Alesi: “From my earliest years, I knew who my father was. I was in love with motor racing from early childhood, even when I didn’t know what it was – in a year or two, I always had a machine in my hands. There is not a single photo where I would be without a typewriter.

I wanted to race at six or seven, I asked my dad if I could try, but he was always against me starting so early. Ultimately, we decided to start together when I was 13, at the end of 2012.

I was aware of everything I had to go to, the sacrifices I had to make, the need for constant training. I understood that I would no longer have such a life as other children. My father told me that it would be like that if I chose this life – and that was when I chose it.

Piloting the fastest cars on the track is what is truly unique. Everything connected with it – the surroundings, the world, the atmosphere – is beautiful, and I get great pleasure from all this. In the race it is very difficult to predict what will happen. They are unpredictable – in fact, you do not know anything, there is one big uncertainty in front of you, and this is what makes motor racing so special and unique.

The fact that I got to the Ferrari Racing Academy, wear a badge with a “Prancing horse” is certainly one of my main achievements. This is such a unique experience that you will not be able to experience it anywhere else. Of course, this was a great achievement for me, and I was very happy about it.

If we talk about racing, then my main achievement I would call my first victory in GP3 at Silverstone two years ago. I did not know what to expect from myself – no one knew, and then it just happened. Of course, it was a big surprise for me, but very pleasant, and it took a while to realize everything.

I always equaled my father. Not only because he is my father, but also because I know where he started, I know how dear he had to go, and I am very pleased to see him, live with him and call him my father. He definitely influenced me more than anyone else. ”
