German company Tesla will not be able to boast a high degree of localizationJuly 4, 2020
In November last year, Tesla shared a plan to build the Gigafactory 4 plant near Berlin, where it was planned to manufacture both Model Y and automotive components such as batteries, plastic parts and engines.
But today it became known that the degree of localization at the plant will not be as high as previously thought, as a result, the cost of new cars can be quite high.
According to the Bloomberg portal the Tesla automaker has changed its mind about building battery and plastic complexes in Gigafactory 4.
This situation arose, according to a foreign publication, due to objective difficulties: the negative factor is the presence of loose sandy soil at the construction site, and the coronavirus has complicated the organization of public hearings on this issue, and now they should be held in September. Local residents do not add optimism, according to which, the enterprise needs a lot of water in conditions when drought is already observed in the region.
The capacity of the enterprise also decreased: in December, the Bild agency reported that they plan to collect 500 thousand cars a year at the plant, later this figure was reduced to 150 thousand units, now Bloomberg, relying on its own sources, notes that Gigafactory 4 is unlikely will be able to produce over 100 thousand electric cars.
In addition, it was recently noted that Tesla is building a factory for the production of batteries. According to information, after the launch, the enterprise will operate around the clock.
