German car market showed growth in 2019January 13, 2020
Volkswagen was the most popular brand in Germany last year.
Experts from an analytical agency shared data on sales of new cars in Germany in 2019. In total, official dealers were able to sell 3.6 million new cars, which is 5% better than in 2018. In many ways, this result is explained by the low base of 2018, when new environmental standards came into force. Most often, the Germans purchased Volkswagen cars – 667 518 times (+ 3.7%). This brand accounts for more than a third of the total car market. In second place is the premium Mercedes-Benz with a score of 339,185 pcs. (+ 6.3%). The American Ford, whose cars sold 279,719 copies (+ 11%), gets the bronze rating. Two German auto giants supplement TOP-5 – BMW (279,243 units, + 5.3%) and Audi (267 195 units, + 4.7%).
In the model ranking, four of the five leading places are occupied by Volkswagen cars. The most popular model is the Golf with a result of 204,550 cars sold.
The second position goes to Volkswagen Tiguan, which sold 87 771 units. Closes the TOP-3 compact Mercedes-Benz C-Class with an indicator of 64,403 pcs. In the fourth and fifth positions are two sedans from Volkswagen – Polo (61,287 units) and Passat (59,322 units). Interestingly, despite the tightening of environmental standards, diesel car sales in Germany grew by 3.7% to 1.15 million units.
