Genesis patented names for six possible electric carsJanuary 31, 2021
The premium sub-brand Hyundai Motor Genesis will actively tackle the electrification of its lineup in the new year. The brand spoke about this at the beginning of 2021.
Then it became known that Genesis was working on a new electric crossover. The electric car will be the sixth car in the lineup of the Korean luxury car manufacturer. The future novelty does not yet have a name.
However, not so long ago, a new trademark was registered in South Korea, which tells us what the first Genesis zero-emission model might be called.
On the Web, Internet user GenesisFan discovered that the automaker has registered six new names for its upcoming models: the G70e, G80e, G90e, GV70e, GV80e and GV90e. The last name is especially interesting: the brand has not yet released the GV90 with a traditional motor. Such a car would be the third and largest luxury crossover in the lineup.
It is possible that in the case of such a large SUV, Koreans can immediately present an electrified version, bypassing the ICE stage. Or the brand will simultaneously present two modifications – with a traditional engine and an EV.
The first Genesis electric car is likely to receive a new modular E-GMP platform. This architecture, as you know, went to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 hatchback. The specified platform allows the electric car to travel up to 500 kilometers. And it also supports fast charging technology: in just five minutes it will be possible to fill the battery with energy for a hundred kilometers.
There is no information about the debut date of the first Genesis electric car yet. In general, Hyundai Motor Group plans to present 23 electric cars at once by 2025.
