Today we received confirmation that the G80 is planned to be released finally, after several delays, in March.

According to a recent interview with former boss Manfred Fitzgerald Car and Driver, he confirmed: “We will have a new G80, which will be released in September this year in Korea, and then on world markets. With this car, you will see the next evolution of our design language, ”added Fitzgerald. Now Fitzgerald is gone, and William Lee has become the boss of Genesis.

As you know, the G80 was delayed, and Genesis instead launched the GV80, with only a 3.0 diesel engine. The reason for the delay was a lot of minor problems with the 2.5-liter Theta III engine and the 3.5-liter Lamdba III Turbo. This setting is tuned for 286 hp. and 380 hp accordingly, it will use an internal DCT transmission with an 8-speed transmission.

The delay in the development of these engines will affect several models, such as the GV80 and G80, but should be fixed at the time of launch of the GV70, G70 facelift and Stinger Facelift. That’s why they decided to speed up the launch of the GV80.

Reports that have been published say cars will be shown in South Korea, but sources from the Hyundai Motor Group have also said that Genesis will take part in the Geneva Motor Show on March 5 and may release the GV80 and G80 together at a Swiss event.

The G80 will be the first Genesis car with the EV variant to appear in 2021. Range and performance have not yet been confirmed. After that, Genesis will also launch a mid-size SUV that will only be electric.
