Genesis G70 will receive a new engineDecember 5, 2019
Under the hood of the premium sedan will be a 2.5-liter power unit from the Sonata N-Line.
The Korean automaker said the new 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder turbocharged engine from Sonata N-Line will be installed in the updated Genesis G70 sedan. The power plant will replace the current 2.0-liter turbo engine, which is available in the base version.
It is expected that the emergence of a new engine will become part of the facelift G70, which should happen in the 2021 or 2022 model year. The new powertrain should provide a significant power boost for the G70 with four cylinders, as the 2.5T engine develops 290 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque in the Sonata, improving performance by 38 hp. and 50 lb-ft compared to the current 2.0T.
It is worth noting that the modified power plant is likely to put an end to the six-speed manual gearbox, since the 2.5-liter Sonata engine only combines with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Genesis said that since the version of the sedan with a 2.0-liter engine accounted for only about 4% of G70 sales in the US, the company completely abandons this version of the power plant. More detailed information about the new product should appear next year.
